Spring is finally upon us and the lighter days which we have all been eagerly waiting for have been most welcome, especially after the downpours that late winter produced us; all now (hopefully) a fading memory! With our lakes slowly but surely getting back to normal; the reappearance of a more attractive surrounding has started to grace us, the daffodils have stated to make an appearance, our plant life is springing back to life and our collection of exotic wildfowl have begun pairing off ready for nesting, Hawkhurst Fish Farm is looking forward to seeing what the months ahead can produce. At the end of last season several 40’s were banked so we are hoping to see more fish this size grace the nets this year. Don’t forget to come armed with the knowledge of weather patterns and watercraft before your session; this will help you understand the movement of the carp and hopefully help you catch more fish as carp are heavily influenced by the weather.
This month also welcomes the return of our popular ‘Fish of the Month’ Competition! If you are interested in winning 24hrs FREE Fishing on one of lakes all you need to do is send your photos along with a short catch report to firstname.lastname@example.org All entries are posted on our website and facebook page so we can keep you up to date with all the latest captures – Remember It’s not necessarily the biggest fish that wins!
Main Lake – Has produced countless carp around the 20lb mark and several nice upper 20’s including a lovely 28lb Common to urban nutcracker. Lenny Smith netted a 24lb Common, Ashley Reeves had a 7 fish haul in his 12hrs session netting some stunning carp from 14lb to 23lb again on the popular urban nutcracker. Simon Horlock netted a 33lb mirror.
Dove Lake – has enticed a few anglers over in recent weeks and has slowly started to produce. There are some stunning good sized carp in this lake which can often be seen cruising around the surface when the water is at its clearest. Just remember Dove Lake requires a stealthy approach at this time so your presence is not detected! Rob Butterfield hooked into a 22lb Common after only 35minutes of casting out! Chris Dowding fished a 24hr session and had 2 Mirrors weighing in at 21lb 2oz and 27lb!
Specimen Lake – has welcomed several new members recently some of whom have had cracking first sessions! Including Tony Burgiss who hooked into a stunning 38lb Mirror!
Simon Evans had a 26lb Common and strangely for this time of year Dave Burton had not 1 but 2 Catfish weighing in at 29lb and 33lb on cell. Dan Rooney had 2 lovely commons hitting the scales at 19lb and 22lb and Rob Trown hooked a stunning, scale-perfect 25lb Common.
